Monument of the Battle of Al-Han (1911)
Historical Context: The battle took place during the Italo-Turkish War (or Libyan War) of 1911. Italian forces landed on the Libyan coast to establish their colony.
Event: The Battle of Al-Hani (or Battle of the Two Palms/Sciara Sciatt) was one of the first and fiercest battles in which Libyan forces (primarily Arab and Turkish volunteers) put up significant resistance to Italian troops landed in Tripoli.
Significance: Although the battle ended with an Italian victory, it is considered by Libyans as one of the heroic battles symbolizing the tenacity and sacrifice of Libyan fighters in defending their homeland.
