Obverse: Portrait of Muammar Gaddafi (Muammar Qaddafi) in the center. Gaddafi was the de facto leader of Libya from 1969 to 2011. The introduction of his portrait on this 1 dinar banknote was a first for the 2002 series.
Reverse: Depicts the Mawlai Muhammad Mosque in Tripoli, an important architectural and religious landmark of the capital.
